Haven

“Haven” is an energetic 1 year old Cairn terrier. Her owners abandoned her in her carrier by a dumpster at an animal hospital in Fairfax after being told they would need to see a specialist due to her injuries. She was brought to the Emergency Veterinary Clinic in Vienna by hospital staff because of multiple fractures to her legs, pelvis and spine. The orthopedic surgeon examined “Haven” and said that whatever happened to her was at least 3 – 4 weeks old. Most of her injuries had already started to heal, but the surgeon recommended doing spinal surgery to try to gain some movement back in her hind end.

Vicki, one of our technicians, adopted “Haven” and opted
to do the surgery. Spinal surgery was done and in the 5 months since “Haven” has started to move her back legs and tail but is still unable to walk. She gets around just fine and doesn’t even know that she is at all different from other dogs. She still has no control of her bowels or bladder so she wears diapers.

Dr. Grasso recommended getting “Haven” a cart so that she would able to get around better. Through numerous generous donations from our clients and neighbors, we were able to generate enough cash to be able to buy a cart and cover the cost of the surgery.
